When different personalities and expectations merge in the work place, conflicts may arise. Unfortunately, not all conflicts can be resolved peacefully, which can sometimes result in accusations and hostile work environments. For example, one Texas police officer has filed a wrongful termination lawsuit against his superiors after he was suspended indefinitely.
The officer worked for the department for 18 years and was a firearms instructor when he was suspended. Allegedly, his supervisor became upset when he was requested to provide training for another department even though it had apparently been appropriately approved per the department policy. The request resulted in a strained relationship between the officer and his supervisor.
Tension between the two men escalated until the officer felt his only option was to file a complaint to the Equal Opportunity Commission against his superiors. After the complaint, he claims that his superiors began to retaliate and wrote him up for failing to adhere to some policies. Apparently, two internal affairs reviews were completed in the officer's case, and he was documented to be insubordinate and dishonest. The officer has stated that his loss of income has caused him to resort to using retirement money and his kid's college savings to pay his living expenses. He is asking for $1 million in damages.
Losing a job can be frustrating, especially if one feels the firing was unfair or the result of retaliation. It is understandable that it can be upsetting and financially stressful for the person terminated. A termination not only results in lost income, but it may make it difficult to obtain new employment. Anyone who feels he or she is a victim of a wrongful termination could benefit from the advice of an attorney in Texas who is familiar with employment law.
